Christmas decorating stresses me out. There I said it. NOT my favorite activity at all and the experience just never goes as I anticipate it will. Especially now as my kids are leaving the nest, just picking a day to do our decorations is chaotic. Seriously we are having discussions, talking dates and even times to get as many kids home for that time.
Being the mom of teens and twenties is not easy. FUN, wild, crazy YES but not easy!
It makes me wish for the days where they drove me CRAZY waiting for dad to get home so that we could get out the lights and boxes of decorations and get it done in an evening. But I digress because I really want to share my memory tree with you. It makes me happy about decorating for Christmas and that is a good thing!
One of my favorite Christmas memories is a small tree with tiny ornaments stored in drawers under a music box that I got many years ago from Avon. We would take turns hanging an ornament each day and listening to the sweet tune that played. That tree has long since died but I still have the tiny little ornaments.
So to celebrate this year, I got a new small tree and hung the tiny ornaments on it.
I plan to take my granddaughter shopping for a new little ornament to hang on it each year that is hers and then I can create a new tradition from the old one. Someday I will give her a small tree with all the little ornaments on it. Maybe for her dorm room in 16 years or so.
But for now, the tiny memory tree sits near me on a window seat, bringing a little Christmas cheer into my craft room. Funny thing is that we don’t have any other decorations up yet because the college kids are gearing up for finals week and many other activities. Hopefully next weekend we can get the big tree up!
